Monroe County Fair program booklet layout

Monroe County Fair Program Booklet

Editorial Layout & Publication Design

This project involved preparing and organizing the Monroe County Fair program booklet, a publication exceeding 150 pages that served as both an event guide and sponsor advertising program. The overall structure and content of the booklet were established by the fair committee, so the work focused on organizing large volumes of submitted material within the approved format. This included integrating sponsor advertisements, arranging event schedules, and maintaining consistent layout and typography throughout the publication. A significant part of the project involved coordinating with local sponsors and vendors. Many advertisers submitted artwork that required adjustment or correction to meet print specifications. I prepared files, corrected layouts, and ensured advertisements fit properly within the publication’s grid and page structure. In addition to layout preparation, I coordinated with outside printing vendors to ensure the booklet was delivered correctly and on schedule prior to the fair. The final publication functioned as both a visitor guide and a major advertising platform for dozens of local businesses supporting the event.

In addition to editorial layout work, I coordinated the preparation of advertising artwork submitted by local sponsors. This included adjusting layouts, correcting files for print compatibility, and ensuring all advertisements met required print specifications.

The project also involved coordinating with outside printing vendors and fair organizers to ensure the publication was properly prepared for large-scale production and delivered on schedule before the fair.   Booklet here

BSides Nashville Conference Materials

Editorial Layout, Apparel Design & Event Graphics

BSides Nashville was a regional cybersecurity conference that I worked with from 2014 through 2019. During this six-year period I served as a  designer for the event’s visual materials.

My work included the design and layout of the conference program booklets and schedules, which organized speaker information, session listings, and event logistics into clear and accessible printed guides for attendees.

In addition to editorial layout, I also developed supporting event materials including conference t-shirt graphics and signage used throughout the venue. These materials required balancing visual branding with the practical production constraints of apparel printing and large format graphics.

The conference paused during the COVID-19 pandemic, and when the event later resumed under new organizers a different design team was brought in. The original BSides Nashville group concluded its run in 2019.

Projects like this highlight the role of editorial design in live events, where large amounts of information must be presented clearly while still maintaining a cohesive visual identity across multiple media formats.
